Today was Ole Arve Misund’s first day as Director General of NIFES, after he was appointed to the position at a meeting of the Council of State on 23 October 2015.
‘I look forward to spending the next few years here and contributing to the further development of this important organisation,’ he says.
NIFES is an independent research institute that conducts research on seafood and nutrition and is a management organisation affiliated to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
‘It must be documented that Norwegian seafood is safe and healthy, and NIFES has a crucial role in this context,’ says Misund.
The new director general has a cand.scient degree and a dr.philos degree in fisheries biology from the University of Bergen, and he has held various researcher and executive positions, including as research director at the Institute of Marine Research, and, most recently, as Managing Director of the University Centre in Svalbard.
He is appointed for a fixed period of six years.
Misund takes over for Øyvind Lie, who has been Director General of NIFES for the past 18 years. Lie will continue to work for NIFES, as a director of research.
