The Norwegian dietary recommendations from 2011 state that the intake of seafood in the form of fatty fish reduces the risk of sudden cardiac death, and this is related to the content of marine omega-3. Many studies indicate that seafood can also have a positive effect on e.g. mental health, pregnancy, obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis. NIFES is working to find out more about what health effects fish and other seafood can have on these non-infectious diseases.
