Background

Surveillance studies have revealed that fish products are sometimes mislabeled. Fish products may therefore contain fillet from other species than declared. For seafood safety concerns, it is necessary for the government to have methods that allow the identification of species of fish product. Since DNA is relatively stable, DNA based methods can be used to identify fish species in commercially sold products.

Objective

The aim of this project is to develop a DNA based method to identify fish species in commercially sold products.
