Surveillance programs are performed on behalf of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and aim at providing an overview of potential risks for animal, plant or human health.
In a food safety perspective, it is important to comply with upper limits for dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs and other PCBs in feed ingredients that are used in feed for food producing animals. These animals have a relatively short life span and animal welfare issues as a result of exposure to the above mentioned compounds are therefore considered minimal. However, companion animals have a longer life expectancy and the current surveillance program therefore also includes feed ingredients to these species.
The surveillance program for dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs and other PCBs in feed ingredients from fish aims at providing knowledge on the concentration and variation of the above mentioned compounds in relevant feed ingredients from fish. Fish based feed ingredients may be used in feed for fish, food producing animals and companion animals.
