Fish feed surveillance
Financed by: Norwegian Food Safety Authority
The project is lead by: NIFES

The production volume of farmed Norwegian salmon continues to grow, and with it also usage of feed in aquaculture. It is important to document and monitor the development of Norwegian fish feed in terms of its composition, with focus on both nutrients and contaminants. NIFES has since 1996 on behalf of the FSA (Norwegian Food Safety Authority) had this advisory role in this fish feed program.

The surveillance program “Fish feed and feed ingredients” aims to monitor the development of the content of undesirable substances and nutrients in feed and ingredients, both marine and plant, used in fish feed production in Norway.

By using knowledge acquired in this program, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority can be ahead in risk thinking and use this information when planning for the overall supervision of the feed business.
